Circulatory and Respiratory Systems

7.L.1.4

2

The Respiratory System

is a system in the body that deals with breathing. When we breathe we take in oxygen that we need and removes carbon dioxide that we don't need.

3

The Respiratory System

Air enters the body through your mouth or nose. It then travels down your trachea (windpipe) which divides into two tubes called bronchi. These tubes carry air into each lung. The diaphragm is a muscle that controls breathing. This muscle becomes flat to let air into the lungs, and relaxes to push air out of the lungs.

4

The Circulatory System

Blood carries things like oxygen and nutrients to each cell in the body. The heart pumps blood through the body through a system of tubes called blood vessels.

5

The Circulatory System

Arteries are a type of blood vessel that carries oxygen-rich blood away from the heart. Veins are another type of blood vessel which carries oxygen-poor blood back to the heart.

9

Multiple Select

What are the functions of the circulatory system? Select ALL that apply.

1

carries oxygen and nutrients to cells

2

works with respiratory system to provide oxygen and get rid of wastes

3

carries waste away from cells

4

removes CO2 and H2O when you exhale

10

Multiple Select

What are the functions of the respiratory system?

Select ALL that apply.

1

provides oxygen for your cells

2

removes CO2 and H2O when you exhale

3

carries oxygen and nutrients

4

provides shape and support for muscle

11

Multiple Choice

What is the main function of the oxygen taken in through breathing?

1

It moves blood throughout the body.

2

It directly breaks down food in the stomach.

3

It is used to make energy needed by cells to function.

4

It is added to bones in the arms and legs as they grow.

12

Multiple Choice

Which explains how the circulatory system and respiratory system work together to sustain the human body?

1

The respiratory system takes in oxygen that is carried by the circulatory system throughout the body.

2

The respiratory system and circulatory system work to regulate temperature by cooling or warming the body.

3

The respiratory system takes in carbon dioxide that is carried by the circulatory system to cells for respiration.

4

The respiratory system and circulatory system both excrete waste to the digestive and excretory systems.

13

Multiple Choice

What body system assists the respiratory system by pulling the rib cage down to allow air to flow in?

1

skeletal

2

muscular

3

endocrine

4

circulatory

14

Multiple Choice

Which set of statements best explains the relationship between the parts of the respiratory system?

1

Respiratory tissues work together to form the lungs. The lungs produce lung cells that allow the respiratory system to function properly.

2

The lungs work together to form respiratory tissues. Respiratory tissues produce lung cells that allow the respiratory system to function properly.

3

The lung cells work together to form the lungs. The lungs produce respiratory tissues that are necessary for the respiratory system to function properly.

4
