​Hope & Wish

​We can express hopes and wishes for the present and future, to do this we can make clauses starting with "I hope..." or "I wish..."

​

​Here are the rules on how to use them.

I hope + present / can

​We use hope + present / can to talk about something that you want to be true in the present

​

​I hope you are ok.

​I hope my mom doesn't forget my birthday.

I hope + will / can / present simple

​We use hope + will / present simple / can to talk about something that you want and expect to happen in the future.

​

​I hope tomorrow doesn't rain.

​I hope the exam will be easy.

​I hope you can come to my party.

I wish + past simple

​We use wish+ past simple to talk about something that you would like to be true in the present but it isn't.

​

​I wish I had more money.

I wish I didn't have homework.

​I wish I was an astronaut.

I wish + would / could

​We use wish + would / could to talk about something that you would like to happen in the future but probably won't.

​

​I wish I would live in CDMX next year

I wish I could travel around the world soon.

​I wish I was an astronaut.
