A great way to understand the proactive mindset is to compare proactive and reactive responses to situation that happen all the time. Read the scenarios on the next few slides and choose the correct answer.

You can usually hear the difference between proactive and reactive people by the type of language they use. Reactive language usually sounds like this:
"That's me. That's just the way I am."
"If my teacher wasn't such a jerk, I would have a better grade."
What these people are really saying is that they aren't in control of their moods-you are.

Reactive language takes power away from you and gives it to something or someone else. When you are reactive it's like telling someone: "Here, you can control how I feel any time you want."
Listen to the difference between reactive and proactive language:
Reactive: I'll try, That's just the way I am, There's nothing I can do, I have to, I can't, You ruined my day
Proactive: I'll do it, I can do better than that, Let's look at all of our options, I choose to, There's got to be a way, I'm not going to let your bad mood rub off on me
