Analyze the causes of the American Revolution, including the Proclamation of 1763, The Intolerable Acts, the Stamp Act, Mercantilism, lack of representation in British Parliament and British Economic Policies following the French and Indian War
3
Proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 was an imaginary boundary (red line) set by King George III after the French and Indian War
It stated that no one was to move west past the Boundary.
The Boundary was marked by the Appalachian Mountains.
This Proclamation was intended to keep peace with Native Americans and their land.
The Proclamation of 1763 angered colonists because they did not like that the King is trying to control where they can live.

Taxation without Representation
The British Parliament's Actions upset many colonists.
Colonists believed that Great Britain had no right to tax them without consent
The Colonies had no representation in British Parliament
The Colonists would protest by "boycotting" which means refusing to buy British goods.
5
Stamp Act of 1765
This tax required colonists to pay for a stamp when they bought paper items, such as newspapers playing cards, pamphlets.
The Colonists protested by using violence against British tax collectors, or refusing to buy the stamps.
Parliament repealed (got rid of) the Stamp Act one year later.
6
Boston Massacre
During this incident British soldiers fired upon a crowd of colonists who were shouting at them, throwing snowballs, and daring the soldiers to shoot at them.
British Soldiers killed 5 colonists
The best remembered casualty of the incident is Crispus Attucks who was half Native American and half black
7
Boston Tea Party
To protest a tax placed on tea, colonists disguised as Native Americans sneaked on to the Tea- filled ships and dumped 340 tea chests into the waters of the harbor.
8
The Intolerable Acts-also known as the Coercive Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a direct response to the Boston Tea Party
they were 6 different Laws and taxes placed on the Colonists as punishment for the Boston Tea Party - the most important ones were....
closing Boston Harbor until the Tea spilled was paid for
The Quartering Act
required colonists to house British soldiers.
These acts only made the Colonists angrier.
9
Mercantilism
Mercantilism is a system of creating and maintaining wealth through carefully controlled trade.
