Informative Writing

​When writing an informative essay introduction you must introduce the topic and organized ideas, concepts, and information.

​

​It is a good idea to use headings, graphics, and multimedia when useful.

​

​At the beginning of each body paragraph there should be a transition word, and at the end of each body paragraph a concluding sentence should be provided.

​

​Be sure to use precise, vivid language.

​

​An informative essay must include examples and facts related to the topic.

​

​The conclusion paragraph should start with a transition and summarize the information from the body paragraphs.

​

​The organization of the essay must be logical and effective throughout the essay.

​

​Sentence structure should vary and include simple, compound, complex, and compound complex sentences.

​

​Exclamatory (!) and interrogative (?) sentences should be used at least once in the essay.

​

​Evidence or proof from outside sources must be cited to avoid plagiarism.

​

​You must use at least one source.

​

​

​Paraphrasing

​A restatement of the meaning of a text or passage using other words.

​Quoting " "

​To repeat or copy out (a group of words from a text or speech), with an indication that one is not the original author or speaker.

​Examples

​Paraphrasing Example: According to article 1, a whistleblower from Facebook verifies what researchers have been telling us for years. 

​

 

Direct Quote Example: Article 1 stats, "Facebook's whistleblower report confirms what researchers have known for years."
