What are Latitudes?

They are imaginary lines surroundings globe, stretching from east to west.

​These lines are parallel lines.

​they are separated by a distance of two lines each 111 km.

​Note: The Earth is not a perfect sphere but an oblate ellipsoid.(slightly egg-shaped)

​The EQUATOR,

​It is also an imaginary line that divides the globe into two halves, The Northern half and The southern Half.

​It holds the latitude degree 0(Zero), located north and south of the equator line 90.

​The latitude degree of 90 to the North indicates the North Pole, and to the South indicates the South Pole.

​There are FIVE main latitude lines available on most maps:

  1. ​The Equator on the latitude degree (zero)

  2. ​Tropic of Cancer at latitude degree 23.5 north.

  3. ​Tropic of Capricorn at latitude degree 23.5 south.

  4. ​The Arctic Circle at latitude degree 66.5 north

  5. ​The Antarctic Circle at latitude degree 66.5 south.
