​THE ARABIAN PENINSULA

• ​What is a PENINSULA?

​A peninsula is an area of land surrounded by water on three sides.

​

So, Arabian Peninsula is called the peninsula because it is surrounded by water on three sides.

The Arabian Peninsula also known as Arabia, a huge desert is southwestern Asia.

​The borders of Arabia are:

​

​JORDAN and IRAQ on North.

​The RED SEA on the West.

​The Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea are on the south

​The Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Gulf are on the East.

​

​There are no lakes and rivers in Arabian Peninsula or Arabia.

​

​Arabia has great historical importance since it is the birthplace of Islam. In the past, Arabia occupied a strategic location as a trade route that connected India, China and Europe.

• ​Today it has greater importance because it controls the Strait of Bab Al Mandab and the Straight of Hormuz.

​

• ​​A straight is a narrow passage that links two bodies of water.

​

• ​Arabia developed economically after discovering huge quantities of oil, natural gas, gold, silver, sulphur, and other mineral resources.

• ​

• ​Four of the Arabian peninsula are among the top 10 oil and gas exporters in the world. These countries are Saudi Arabia, The UAE, Kuwait and Qatar.

​The main exports of Arabian peninsula are:

​Oil, Petrochemicals, Natural Gas, Gold, Copper, Limestone, Fish, Dates, marble and pearls.

​Arabian Countries produce

some fruits, vegetables, coffee, wheat, and barley.
