Division of decimals is somewhat similar to division of whole numbers.

 Ang pagkakaiba ng dalawa ay may decimal point ang dividend o divisor sa division of decimals, samantalang sa division of whole numbers ay wala.

Division of decimals:

12.5 ÷ 2.1

15.32 ÷ 0.58

301.1 ÷ 2.14

Division of whole numbers:

10 ÷ 2

15 ÷ 3

20 ÷ 4

16

Pagdating naman sa proseso o steps sa division of decimals, nagkakaroon muna ng movement ng decimal point bago pa mag-proceed sa division.

Kapag nasa dividend ang decimal point, walang movement na gagawin.

12.5 ÷  21 -> 12.5 ÷  21 (walang mababago)

Kapag naman nasa divisor ang decimal point, magmu-move pa-right ng placement sa dividend depende kung ilang places mayroon dito.

12.5 ÷ 2.1 -> 12.5 -> 125

2.1 -> 21 ; kaya magiging 125 ÷ 21 na ito.

Sa mas madaling pag-unawa, magiging whole number ang dividend. Kung halimbawang may 2 places. 2 beses ito imu-move; kung 3 ay 3 beses, and so on.

12.5 ÷  0.21 -> 1250 ÷ 21 (may 2 decimal places ang 0.21 kaya 2 moves pakanan)

12.5 ÷ 0.021 -> 12500 ÷ 21 (may 3 decimal places ang 0.021 kaya 3 moves pakanan)

17

Let's practice moving some decimal points first.

media

18

Move the decimal points to their proper places.

1) 18 ÷ 2.1 ->

2) 253 ÷ 3.5 ->

3) 1.23 ÷ 0.2 ->

4) 75.6 ÷ 3.3 ->

5) 6.56 ÷ 0.89 ->

19

Ngayong nai-move na ang mga decimal point sa tamang puwesto, maaari nang mag-proceed sa division. I-divide ito hanggang sa thousandths place (3 decimal places) at saka i-round off ang sagot sa nearest hundredths (2 decimal places).

1) 18 ÷ 2.1 = N

Answer:

8.57

20

Please get your drill board and marker or paper and pen, and let us divide the rest of the given numbers.

1) 18 ÷ 2.1 = 8.57

2) 253 ÷ 3.5 = N

3) 1.23 ÷ 0.2 = N

4) 75.6 ÷ 3.3 = N

5) 6.56 ÷ 0.89 = N

Do your computation vertically. (Like this.)

Let's have some examples on division of whole numbers with quotients in decimal form.

23

Clarissa helps in sari-sari store after her class. If she works 12 hours in 15 days, what is the average number of hours she works there in a day?

24

Roland has ₱ 81.75 left from his weekly allowance. He wants to share the amount equally to his 3 siblings. How would each sibling receive?

media

Each sibling would receive ₱ 27.25.
