What is Biomechanics?
3
Biomechanics
Study of biomechanics forms and patterns of movement in scientific terms.
These concepts are an indispensable aid to modern professional athletes in improving their results. But they can also help you in your daily exercise routine if you understand how the laws of physics govern your range of motion and your performance.
4
Kinesiology
The field of kinesiology has evolved to study human movement. It's only natural that research in this branch of learning would be applied to the world of sports. Today, coaches and trainers use a variety of high-tech instruments to observe and modify an athlete's motion and technique
5
Lesson Objectives
Learn the basic principles of biomechanics and movement patterns.
Understand how physical laws govern an athlete's performance.
Engage in physical activity and experience the health benefits of exercise.
Standard 1: The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

Using the Laws of Physics
The next time you toss a flying Frisbe, think about why it flies so gracefully through the air; then picture what would happen if you threw it without putting any spin on it. There are forces at work on that simple plastic disk that allow it to function efficiently with the laws of aerodynamics. The shape gives it lift, and spin gives it stability. You provide the thrust with the motion of your arm and the flick of your wrist.

Biomechanics
Motor skills refer to the combined actions of your brain, nervous system, muscles, joints, and bones that allow you to do anything from tying your shoes to heading a corner kick into the back of the net.
Coordination and balance are ways of describing your ability to perform certain functions using your motor skills.
11
Biomechanics
Locomotor movement applies to any motion of the body through space: running, jumping, diving, and so forth.
Nonlocomotor movement refers to the motion of the body while it remains anchored in the same spot, such as bending, squatting, twisting, or turning.
Every sport employs one or more of basic types of movement patterns. For example, sending includes throwing or striking an object; receiving means catching or collecting it; and evading refers to the act of dodging or faking.
