Students will be able to determine when a function is increasing, decreasing, and/or constant, by using the intervals of the function.

For starters, watch this upcoming YouTube video to recap what Domain and Range mean and lead into today's lesson.

Increasing:

A function is increasing at any time when the graph of the function "rises from left to right", or in other words, the y-values increases while the x-values increases, creating a positive slope (rate of change).

- The function to the right is increasing shown in the yellow interval.

Decreasing:

A function is decreasing at any time when the graph of the function "falls from left to right", or in other words, the y-values decreases while the x-values increases, creating a negative slope (rate of change).

The function to the right is decreasing shown by the orange interval.

Constant:

A function is constant at any time when the graph of the function "is horizontal from left to right", or in other words, the y-values are unchanged while the x-values increases, creating a zero slope (rate of change).

The function to the right is constant shown by the interval labeled B.

We see slopes and functions change in the real world constantly...

Our goal is to determine WHEN, or from what INTERVALS, are these functions increasing, decreasing or constant.
