Adverbs of manner

An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

Adverbs of manner answer the question "how?"

They are used only to describe verbs.

We form adverbs of manner by adding -ly to an adjective.

"slow - slowly"

Rules

Change -y to -i. "easy - easily".

Double the final consonant. "fearful - fearfully".

Drop the final le. "possible - possibly".​

Add -ally if ends in -ic. "tragic - tragically".

Some adverbs are irregular: "good-well", "fast - fast", "early - early", "hard - hard".​
