If you want to find out which country someone is from, you ask:

¿De dónde eres tú? Where are you from? (singular familiar)

¿De dónde es usted? Where are you from? (singular formal)

¿De dónde son ustedes? Where are you all from? (plural)

5

If you want to ask what nationality someone is, you can ask:

¿Cuál es tu nacionalidad? What is your nationality? (familiar)

¿Cuál es su nacionalidad? What is your nationality? (Formal)

Now that we know the right questions to ask, let’s learn how to respond!

6

To state your place of origin (Where you are from) you say:

Soy de Barbados - I am from Barbados

Somos de Venezuela - We are from Venezuela.

Luisa es de Panamá - Luisa is from Panama.

Mi amigo es de Los Estados Unidos - My friend is from the states

7

To talk about your nationality you say:

Soy cubano . I am Cuban. (if you are a boy)

Soy cubana. I am Cuban. (if you are a girl)

Soy barbadense - I am Barbadian. (boy or girl)

Notice that nationalities have different forms when describing persons who aremale or female.

Adjectives that end in E do not change the ending in the singular forms! For the plural forms we simply add an s.
