​What are fungi ??

Kingdom Fungi includes both multicellular and unicellular organisms

They include moulds, yeast, mushrooms and toadstools​.

They are Eukaryotic and heterotrophic. They are also called saprophytes because they feed on dead decaying​ organic matter like

dead plants etc.​

Their cells are made of chitin, a tough complex sugar

Some fungi, like​ Aspergillus, are parasitic, that is, they derive their food from other plants.

Fungi are also natures scavengers as mentioned earlier, that is, they feed on dead decaying matter.

Yeast , a type of fungi , helps in production of bakery products.

It is also used to provide special flavours to the cheese.​

While having its advantages, Fungi comes with its own set of disadvantages

1)​Spoilage of food - Many species of Penicillum and Aspergillus

are responsible for spoiling food.

2)​Diseases in humans - Many diseases like HIV is also caused by fungi in humans (Human immunodeficiency virus)

Harmful Yeasts - Some Yeasts also cause diseases in plants such as Red Rot , Wilt and Tikka
