​What is trade?

The exchange of something for something else is known as trade or commerce.

  • ​Early humans, hunters, and gatherers used to hunt and gather food for themselves, their families, and the whole group in which they lived. They did not know the trade.

​What is bartering?

Bartering is an old method of exchange. This system has been used for centuries and long ago before money was invented. People exchanged services and goods in return for food, tea, weapons, and spices. Salt was another popular item exchanged.

  • When people started to grow crops and domesticate animals, they knew bartering for the first time. They also started to use donkeys, camels, and horses as means of transportation, in addition to ships and caravans that carried goods, animals, and products from one place to another.

​What is a scribe?

Ascribe is a person who serves as a professional copyist, especially one who made copies of manuscripts before the invention of automatic printing. Other texts as secretarial and administrative duties such as taking dictation, keeping the business records, judicial and historical records of kings, nobles, temples, and cities.

Later on this professional developed into public servants, journalists, accountants, bookkeepers, typists and lawyers.​
