2

Hello! Today we'll be learning about Dividing fractions by integers. If you don't know then its ok. You might have learned fractions before in year 6.

3

Dividing fractions by integers is basically a fraction divided by a number

Example: 8

10

÷

2

To solve this, you need to look at the integer which is this one

On computer I just do this 8/10

4

So 2 is just 2 but in fractions it is 2 over 1 (2/1)

So it'll be 8/10 divided by 2/1. Let's look at this question:

8/10 ÷ 2/1

To solve this what you have to do is to switch the numerator (2) and the denominator (1) so it'll be like this: 1/2, but when you do that, from the division, it will turn to multiply so you have to multiply: 8/10 ÷ 2/1 = 8/10 x 1/2= 8/20. You might be asking...are done?? well truly no because you have to divide 8/20 and it's called 'Simplify'.

5

To simplify, all you got to do is just to divide 8/20 by 2 because the integer in this question is 2. And you need to divide the numerator and denominator: 8/20 ÷ 2 = 4/10. But we can still simplify!! 4/10 ÷ 2 = 2/5 and that's it. This is how you do divide fractions by integers. If you want the full calculations then go to next slide ->

6

8/10 ÷ 2/1 = 8/10 x 1/2 = 8/20 ÷ 2 = 4/10 ÷ 2 = 2/5
