2

Explain command word

Explain why tropical rainforests need to be conserved. (4m)

List down two importance (uses) of tropical rainforest.

  • water catchment

  • lungs of the Earth

Then, explain each of them in detail.

  • How tropical rainforests can provide the water supply for us, so we need to conserve them.

  • How tropical rainforests is functioned as the lungs of the Earth, so we need to conserve them

3

Explain command word

Explain why tropical rainforests need to be conserved. (4m)

Tropical rainforests need to be conserved because they have many important uses for human's survival on Earth. Two among them are as water catchment and as green lungs of the Earth. (introduction)

Tropical rainforests slowed down some of the rainfall so that it can seep into the ground and be stored as groundwater. Should there be less trees, there will be less water stored, which will reduce the water supply. This will make the water price increase. (1st reason: water catchment)

4

Explain command word

Explain why tropical rainforests need to be conserved. (4m)

Tropical rainforests also function as the green lungs of the Earth, which help the Earth to "breathe". The trees absorb the carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. This way, around 20% of the Earth's oxygen is estimated to be generated by the Amazon rainforests alone. You can imagine the impact if we lose our tropical rainforests, since the generator of oxygen will be reduced a lot, so will the oxygen it produced. (2nd reason: green lungs of the Earth)

OR: act like the Earth's natural air purifier , OR its function to keep the Earth cool.

Open Ended

Why do people cut the trees from the forests? (4m)

7

Multiple Choice

Which of the following feature belong to emergent layer of the tropical rainforest?

1

many trees grow to 20-30 m to reach for sunlight

2

there are many varieties of ephyphites

3

vegetation grows widely-spaced from each otehr

4

the trees have very tall, straight trunks with few branches

8

Fill in the Blank

Which layer has continuous cover like umbrella?

9

Fill in the Blank

In which layer can we find much larger leaves compared to the plants in other layers?

10

Open Ended

LIst down two reasons why epiphytes grow on trees? (2m)

11

Poll

These adaptation of plants is applicable on bark and branches of rainfrest trees: lack of wind caused many trees have their fruits high on the top of the trees.

12

Multiple Choice

Why do some vegetation have waxy and leathery leaves?

1

to allow rainwater to flow easily to the roots of the trees

2

to capture sunlight for photosynthesis

3

to allow water to run off easily

4

to minimise the loss of moisture

Multiple Select

The three conditions that tropical rainforests must have throughout the year are ....

1

lots of sunlight

2

high temperature

3

dry condition

4
