​REPORTING STATEMENTS

​In statements (affirmative or negative), we use a subordinated "that" clause (The pronoun "that" can be omitted).

Subject + reporting verb + that + reported sentence

  • ​She advised that we wouldn't go to the beach if we had bad grades

  • They told the real state agent that they were buying the house they had seen on Monday

Questions answered using a short answer (yes/no + , + personal pronoun + Auxiliar)

We change them into RS by using a Conditional sentence with IF / WHETHER

Subject + Reporting verb + if / whether + Subject + reported verb + rest

  • She asked Linda whether she was happy in that school

  • My teacher asked me if I had understood the problem

We change them into RS by using a Relative clause with the interrogative as relative pronoun
