​Madhya Pradesh with an area of 3,08,245 sq.km. is the second largest state in India. It is located in Central India. The state is bound on the north by Uttar Pradesh, the east by Chhattisgarh, the south by Maharashtra and the west by Gujarat and Rajasthan.​

The State bird of Madhya Pradesh is “Dhudraj” the Asian Paradise Flycatcher (Terpsiphone paradise). It is a medium sized passerine bird native to Asia. They feed on insects, which they capture in the air often below a densely canopied tree.

The State animal of Madhya Pradesh in the “Barasingha” (Rucervus duvaucelii syn. Cervus devaucelii), also called swamp deer. The swamp deer differs from all the Indian deer species in that the antlers carry more than three times. Because of this distinctive character it is designated Barasingha, meaning “twelve-tined.

​The State Animal

​

The State tree of Madhya Pradesh is the “India Banyan” (Ficus benghlensis), is a large and extensive growing tree of the Indian subcontinent. Ficus benghalensis produces propagating roots which grow downwards as aerial roots. Once these roots reach to ground, they grow into woody trunks that can become indistinguishable from the main trunk.
