    • This is a decorative way of controlling fullness of multiple rows of gathering. 

  • Darts and tucks

    • Darts are triangular folds of cloth that help clothes fit flat against the curves of the body.

    •  Tucks are even folds of fabric that are stitched along the fold to add a decorative effect. 

  • Pleats

    • Pleats are folds in fabric that help control fullness

  • Gathers

    • These are seen often at waistlines on sleeves, cuffs, yokes or as ruffles.

Gathers are created by using the long stitch setting on the sewing machine and pulling the threads to evenly space out the 'folds'

Another way to create gathers is use a hand stitch called base stitch and pulling the thread to create folds
