As you saw yesterday in the Explore Card Sort,

The 6 kingdoms are: Eubacteria, Archaebacteria, Fungi, Protista, Plantae and Animalia.

Today we are going to learn about the characteristics that distinguish the organisms classified into the 6 kingdoms.

Let's Discuss:

Let’s discuss the importance of classification, the various historical models of classification, how we name organisms and the 6 kingdoms of classification.

• As I am discussing the historical models of classification, you will fill in the blanks on the Explain - Part 1 of your student sheet.

• This also includes a 3 column chart to compare and contrast Aristotle and Linnaeus’ classification models.

Student Engagement Activity One:

Prior to class, I hung Kingdom Posters across the room.

• Students will fill in the Kingdom Classification Chart of the Explain section of their student sheet using the Kingdom Posters.

• There will be a timer indicating when students should rotate to the next poster.

• Students should complete this activity independently.
