A photo essay, also called picture story, is a collection of pictures or images that are arranged in a specific order to tell the progression of events, emotions, and concepts. The photographs are arranged to explore a theme or to tell a story.

It is a photographer’s way of showing a more complete story through a collection of images. Generally, a photo essay contains between five and fifteen images. These images may or may not have captions.
