What are canyons?

1. ​The word "canyon" is from spanish; in europe and oceania they use "gorge".

2. narrow, deep valley cut by a river through rock

3. can be any size

4. sides are very steep

How are they formed?

EROSION!! Rivers flow and erode (wear away at) the rock.
