Must en have to betekenen allebei "moeten". Echter gaat must over iets wat van jezelf moet, terwijl have to een verplichting is van iemand anders/buitenaf.

Have to gaat vooral over algemene verplichtingen, terwijl must wordt gebruikt voor specifieke verplichtingen.

In de verleden tijd en de toekomst gebruik je geen must. Hier moet je dan have to voor vervoegen naar had to of will have to.
