Joshua wants to find out which spoon is a better conductor of heat. He set up the experiment as shown below. He filled the container with boiling water. He then put a block of butter at the tip of each of the spoons.

Which block of butter will melt first?

Poll

Question image

Which spoon is a poor conductor of heat?

Wooden spoon

Metal spoon

4

Open Ended

Question image

Describe how the heat travels based on the picture above?

5

Multiple Choice

The instrument used to measure temperature accurately is a ______

1

temperature

2

degree celcius

3

thermometer

4

thermocentimeter

6

media

The hotter object is the boiling water, and the colder objects are the spoons and the butter.

The heat from the boiling water will travel to the spoons and then to the butter on the top of each of the spoon.

Since the metal spoon is a good conductor of heat, the heat will reach the butter faster.

Heat travels from hotter object to colder object

8

Multiple Choice

Which one of these lunch boxes will keep the meal hot longer?

1

Styrofoam lunch box

2

Metal lunch box

9

media

Styrofoam is a poor conductor of heat.

It doesn’t allow the heat to pass through easily / It traps the heat inside it and not let it pass through easily.

Why?

10

media

Rita has two similar basins, A and B, containing the same amount of water at 20 °C. She poured a cup of water at 100 °C into Basin A. She poured a bucket of water at 100 °C into Basin B.

11

Fill in the Blank

In which basin will the temperature be higher?

12

media

The water in the bucket has more heat than the water in the cup because of the greater amount of water in the bucket.

Therefore, when the water from the bucket is added to Basin B, more heat travels to the water in the basin, and so the temperature becomes higher.
