Simple past in English ​

In English we use the simple past to talk about a completed action that happened in a time before now (in the past).

In Spanish to talk about actions that happened in the past we use two ​past tense: El Pretérito and El Imperfecto.

El Pretérito

  • El Pretérito is similar to the English Simple past.

  • El Pretérito​ is used to talk about completed past actions.

  • Just like in the Present tense, we must conjugate the verbs ​in the Preterite in order for the verb to agree with the subject.

​To conjugate Regular verbs n the Preterite tense, we are basically doing the same steps for conjugating verbs in the Present tense. The only difference, is that for the Preterite we need to learn a new set of endings.
