Autocracy

An Autocracy is a form of government where one person has ALL of the power

​There are 2 forms of Autocracy

  • Absolute Monarchy

Dictatorship

  • King or Queen has all of the power

    (ULTIMATE AUTHORITY)

  • They act as head of state and government

Absolute Monarchy

Constitutional Monarchy

  • ​In a Constitutional Monarchy, the king or queen shares their power with an elected legislature

  • They act as head of state only

  • They are in charge of diplomatic affairs

  • EX: England, Spain, Sweeden

A Democracy is a form of government where citizens hold the power

  • Direct Democracy

  • Representative Democracy

  • Elections are held so citizens can vote on who they want to represent them in their local, state, and national governments

Representative Democracy

  • Citizens are directly involved in the work of governing the country

  • Decisions are voted on directly by citizens

An Oligarchy is a form of government where a small group of people hold MOST or ALL the political power

  • They are not elected​

  • ​They do both military and government work

  • EX: Russia

Junta: ​small group of military officers that take over and rule a country by force

The power given to those in charge comes from their:​

  • ​Military Position

  • Religious Position

  • Social Status

  • Wealth​

Theocracy

A Theocracy is a form of government built on spiritual and religious beliefs

  • Citizens do not elect their leaders

  • Leaders believe they are chosen ​by God or a divine being

    EX: Iran, Sudan

Anarchy

​Anarchy is a belief system that REJECTS government authority

  • ​No central government

  • ​No laws, no rules

  • No law enforecment

  • ​People have complete freedom
