China and Taiwan
China is a communist country. It has been communist since the Chinese Civil War in which the Communist party headed by Mao Zedong defeated the Nationalist Party headed by Chaing Kai-shek. The Nationalist party fled to the island of Taiwan and started the Republic of China there.
Mao Zedong started the People's Republic of China. Mao was responsible for the Great Leap Forward that ended up starving millions to death.
Today, China still claims Taiwan belongs to them and has threatened force if Taiwan rebels.

Currently Japan has a limited government (Constitutional Monarchy). They have an emperor but he has no real power. However in the late 1800s and early 1900s, Japan was unlimited with an absolute monarchy. Japan invaded and took over the Koreas and northern China because it wanted more resources. This era was known as Japanese Imperialism. Japan went on to conquer most of Asia and became part of the Axis Powers in WWII. After they surrendered in WWII, the US occupied Japan and helped them become a limited government.

For centuries China was ruled by dynasties (ruling families). The Chinese civilization is known for many discoveries and inventions. For example, they invented gunpowder, woodblock printing, and the magnetic compass.
Japanese Feudalism was a way to organize society. For centuries, the Emperor was at the top but he had little power. Instead the Shogun had the power and distributed land to Daimyo. The Samurai were the warriors who protected the land. The peasants worked the land.
