Nouns (Danh từ)

Danh từ đếm được/không đếm được, danh từ số ít/số nhiều và danh từ đơn/ghép trong tiếng Anh.

Countable nouns (Danh từ đếm được)

Danh từ đếm được có thể ở dạng số ít hoặc số nhiều.

Danh từ số ít có thể đi với a hoặc an.

Danh từ số nhiều thường được thêm -s hoặc -es ở cuối từ.

a boy -> boys

a potato -> potatoes

Uncountable nouns (Danh từ không đếm được)

Danh từ không đếm được không có dạng số nhiều, không dùng với a/ an.

Có những danh từ vừa đếm được vừa không đếm được, tuỳ theo nghĩa trong câu.

1/ Thêm -es sau những từ tận cùng bằng -s, -x, -sh, -ch, -tch, -o

+ trước -y là một nguyên âm: thêm s

3/ Phải đổi f thành v trước khi thêm -es:

Chú ý: Trường hợp số nhiều bất quy tắc

a man -> men | a woman -> women
a tooth -> teeth | a foot -> feet
a goose -> geese | a mouse -> mice

a deer -> deer | an aircraft -> aircraft
...

Chú ý: Danh từ luôn dùng ở dạng số nhiều

trousers, jeans, spectacles, scissors, clothes, wages,...

Danh từ ghép

Là một danh từ được tạo thành từ hai từ riêng biệt

bank account (tài khoản ngân hàng) | nut cracker (kẹp hạt dẻ)

pen-name (bút danh) | baby-sitter (người trông giữ trẻ)

sunglasses (kính râm) | windscreen (kính chắn gió)

Cấu trúc danh từ ghép N + N

Danh từ trước bổ nghĩa cho danh từ sau, khi chuyển sang số nhiều thêm -s vào danh từ sau

a schoolboy: một nam sinh (số nhiều: schoolboys)

a boyschool: trường dành cho học sinh nam (số nhiều: boyschools)

a racehorse: một con ngựa đua (số nhiều: racehorses)

a horserace: một cuộc đua ngựa (số nhiều: horseraces)

Các cấu trúc danh từ ghép khác

Adj + N: blackboard (bảng đen), grandparents (ông bà)
Gerund + N: washing machine, waiting room, dancing teacher
N + Gerund: handwriting, city planning, day-dreaming, oath taking
