Vocabulary:​ ELEMENTS OF POETRY

Read these words to better understand the different types of poetry:

​

stanza - a division of a poem consisting of two or more lines arranged together as a unit

rhyme - ​have or end with a sound that corresponds to another.

rhyme scheme - the arrangement of rhymes in a stanza or a poem

rhythm - the use of long and short stresses, or stressed and unstressed, within the writing.

syllable -​ a single, unbroken vowel sound within a spoken word.
