Multiple Choice
You're right! Betsy was very excited indeed! Can you guess why?
Because she had a poorly tummy and had to stay in bed.
Because her dad had promised to take Betsy and her brother Jack swimming at the big pool in town - the one with lots of slides!

Audio Response
You've got it! Betsy loved swimming and whizzing down the spiral slides on her big inflatable ring! Betsy can't help but let out a big woohoo as she splashes into the pool! Can you rock from side to side as you speed around the corners! Quick here comes the big splash! Shout woohoo! (Press record and play back to hear yourselves!)

Poll
Betsy and Jack jumped straight into the pool! The water felt gloriously warm as they happily splashed about. "Which slide shall we go on first?" Asked Jack. "Oooh they are all so amazing I can't decide!" Squealed Betsy. Can you help Betsy choose?
Red slide
white slide
orange slide

Good choice! Betsy and Jack skipped excitedly up the steps towards the slides. Suddenly a big rope stopped them in their tracks. In big letters it read:
"ALL SLIDES CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE"
"No!" shouted Betsy as she felt her fists clench. "That's not fair!"
TTYP:
How do you think Betsy is feeling? Why?
Has this turned into a sad, bad, terrible day for Betsy and Jack?
Stand up and join in with the song on the next page. Can you think of some actions?

Multiple Choice
Betsy can feel her face becoming hot and the muscles in her body are tightening. It's normal to feel sad or even cross when we are disappointed and we feel things aren't fair. Betsy doesn't like this feeling very much though.
Reception class, can you put your thinking caps on? What can Betsy do to help to feel calmer? Let's have a class vote!
Try stamping her feet and shouting.
Take deep breaths and count to 10.
Go under the rope and go on the slide anyway.

You chose deep breathing! What a fantastic idea!
Can you help Betsy and Jack to breathe in and out slowly until they feel calmer like the green colour monster?
Join in with the video on the next page.

Thank you so much for breathing with Betsy - sometimes it really helps to do this with someone you trust.
Betsy can feel the tightness leaving her body and she feels more relaxed. "Never mind Jack" she says, "we can still have fun! Look the wave machine is about to start! Let's jump back in!"
Let's have some fun in the waves!
Dance along to your teacher's wave moves on the next page. You could even use scarves!
