Matte eyeshadow is one of the many different textures of eyeshadow. All matte eyeshadows are flat colors without any shimmer or glitter. Typically, you would use matte eyeshadow as the 'base' color. Putting this base on before any other colors or textures, prevents the eyeshadow from looking streaky.

Shimmer textured eyeshadow is more of a less natural/basic look. Shimmery eyeshadow usually has specks of glitter in it, causing it to sparkle when light hits the eye. This, you would place on top of a matte eyeshadow to prevent streaks. When doing eyeshadow, you want to prevent an 'overdone' look. By lightly layering the eyeshadows, the outcome is a beautifully blended look.

Cream textured eyeshadow, looks and feels exactly how it sounds. It has more of a creamy texture, leaving the eye looking very well blended and like matte textured, can be used as a base for other eyeshadows.
