We call the beginning of this art style Analytical Cubism.

In this style, artists would study (or analyze) the subject and break it up into different blocks or sides.

They would look at the object from different angles. Then they would reconstruct the subject, painting the blocks from various viewpoints.

During this phase, artists painted and drew in monochrome (only one colour). They cared more about the shapes and forms and not the colour.​
