Ratios Examples

Ratios can be shown in different ways:

• using the : to separate example values (1:3 (for every one boy there are 3 girls)

• using the / to separate one value from the total (1/4 are boys and 3/4 are girls

• as a decimal, after dividing one value by the total ( 0.25 boys (by dividing 1 by 4)

• as a percentage, after dividing one value by the total​ (25% are boys (0.25 as a percentage)

​The Easiest Way To Solve for Unit Rates is to Simply Divide the Unit Values.

​Example:

​John Drove 90 miles in 3 hours. How many miles did he travel per hour?

  • 90 divided by 3 = 30​

  • the Unit Rate would be 30 Miles per Hour​
