Each year on April 22, people from all over the world celebrate Earth Day. There are lots of different ways people celebrate Earth Day.
Earth Day began in 1970 when Wisconsin senator Gaylord Nelson wanted to make people aware of environmental issues. He thought that by having a special day to celebrate, people would learn more about the world we live in and how to preserve it for years to come. By 1990, the movement spread globally and was celebrated by people in over 100 countries around the world.
How do people choose to celebrate Earth Day? Some people attend rallies and parades to raise awareness for environmental issues. Many people pick up trash around their neighborhoods and teach others about the importance of recycling. Some people even plant trees! Many believe that by putting some “green” back into the environment, we are helping to preserve Earth’s beauty and nature for future generations.
There are several ways you can celebrate Earth Day at school and at home. Start by recycling paper and plastic items after you are done using them. This easy method helps prevent waste buildup in our oceans and landfills. Another way to be more Earth-conscious is to reuse water. You can use a bucket to collect any dripping shower or sink water and use it to water plants. What other ways can you support our planet and celebrate Earth Day?
