How to be a respectful group member 4.1.1 pg 2

Be an active listener -- Give your full attention to a speaker without interrupting, and then respond to show you understand what is being said.

Be inclusive -- include everyone, ask the shy person for his or her opinion---disagree kindly and explain why--- show the same respect you would like shown to you.

Contribute ideas -- Share your ideas and opinions and add to the conversation. Build on ideas that other group members bring to the table.

Take turns speaking-- raise hands?-- maybe choose a moderator

Set a timer--so everyone gets a chance to share ideas. If group is an online group and sharing is done in chat.... could have a word or character limit.

Stay focused--try to keep off topic chat to a minimum.

Consensus 4.1.1 page 9

But what if not everyone agrees? Part of working in groups is building consensus. Building consensus means coming to an agreement that everyone in the group can live with, even if opinions still differ.

When there's a disagreement in your group, follow these steps to build consensus.

Step 1. Understand the disagreement.

Step 2. Find common ground.

Step 3. Discuss solutions.

Give me a thumbs up so I can see that you're listening!

We will all work as individuals in this project. We have to alter some questions!

Why is it important that students pay attention for this part of the lesson?

16

Work with your group to create two lessons. The first lesson should be a written set of instructions for learning and applying a skill of some kind. Use text features and graphics to make the instructions easy to understand. The second lesson should be an oral set of instructions for learning and applying the same skill. This second lesson might take the form of an audio recording, a video, or an in-person presentation. Use media of any kind to make these instructions easy to understand, or find a way to make up for a lack of media.

no group.... work individually..... one lesson...... You do not have to do the oral presentation part!!!!

17

We will NOT be doing the sharing part of the assignment

Questions:

  1. Choose skill! This question works... ignore where it says to work with your group... you are working individually.

    Choose a skill that:

    • Doesn't require special equipment or a lot of materials

    • Can be learned in less than half an hour, given proper instructions

    • Is something usually taught in school, especially middle school

    • Is an actual skill that students can apply, and not just a fact to memorize
