Presenting Information

> Information can be presented in many different ways.

> Presentation software like PowerPoint lets you make slideshows.

> This is a slideshow – you are reading a slide right now. It can have text, images, sound, animations and video clips on it.

> You need to think carefully about WHY you are making your slideshow and WHO it is for.

Audience and Purpose

> When you create a presentation, it must have a clear purpose. This means that there is a clear reason for making it. This is usually:

To entertain

To persuade

To inform

> You must also think about the audience and make sure it is appropriate for them. For example:

Is it for people of your age?

Is it for older people?

What can you do to make it appeal to the audience?

> You should remember AUDIENCE and PURPOSE at all times.

For example:

> There is no point showing an animated cat, if the slideshow is about Physics!

> What about this sound clip, in a slideshow that is about sport?

> And what about this clip? Does this help at all?

6

Design

> You also need to think about the design of the slideshow:

Getting the right amount of text on a slide

Using colours appropriately

Using fonts sensibly

Getting the style of language right

Putting the slides in a suitable order

Using appropriate images and sounds
