>In this unit you will learn how to:

Create a basic presentation

Work with appropriate templates

Add appropriate text and images to slides

Run a slideshow which is fit for purpose

Presentation basics

>PowerPoint presentations are also called slideshows.

>Slides are shown one after another.

>They are multimedia presentations made up of text, word art, images, animations, video and sound.

>They can be shown while a person is doing a talk.

>They can be shown on their own.

>When creating a presentation, you must always think about the PURPOSE and the AUDIENCE.

Working with templates

>PowerPoint has templates, or layouts, for slides.

>You must choose the one that is most suitable for the information you want to present.

Working with text

>Don’t put too much text on a slide.

>Use a font size that is big enough - probably size 20 and above. This is 32pt. This is 20pt. This is 12pt.

>Do not use too many different types of font.

>Do not use too many colours.

>Make sure the colour of the font is different from the background colour, and shows up well.

Working with images

You can get images from:

>ClipArt

>The Internet

>Photographs you have taken on a digital camera

>Photographs or images that you have scanned with a scanner

You must select images that are appropriate for the

purpose and audience.

Running a slideshow

You must think about:

>Whether you want the slides to change automatically

>How quickly you want them to change

>Whether you want the slides to change when the viewer clicks the mouse

   

   This will depend again on the purpose and the audience.
