Wish/If only to express regrets

​To express and talk about present and future unreal conditions.

​ Subject wish/wishes Subject + simple past (Ved/II)... ​​

He wishes  he knew the truth. (Шкода, що він не знає правди)

If only Subject ​+ simple past (Ved/II)...

If only he ​ knew the truth.

​(he doesn’t know the truth, but he wishes he did)

​​ Subject wish Subject + past perfect simle (had + Ved/II)... ​​

He wishes  he had known the truth.

(Шкода, що він не знав правди)​

He wishes  he hadn't told the truth.

​​To complain about an annoying or irritable behaviour that you disapprove with a present action. (Subjects are different)
