​When do we use "used to"?

• We use used to to talk about past habits and things we did in the past and we don't do in the present.

  ​

  ​He used to smoke (but now he doesn't smoke).

  ​

• We cannot use used to for single actions in the past. ​

  ​

  He went to the supermarket and bought some milk.

Afirmative: used to+ infinitive

​​I used to listen to classical music when I was a child.​

Negative: didn't use to + infinitive ​

She didn't use to read detective novels (but now she does)​. ​

​

Question form: Did+ subject + use to+ infinitive? ​
