Today we are going to learn how to talk about your favourite things.

Mein Lieblingssport ist Tennis. My favourite sport is tennis.

Mein Lieblingsauto ist ein Porsche. My favourite car is a porsche.

Meine Lieblingsfarbe ist rot. My favourite colour is red.

To talk about your favourite things, you just add Lieblings (favourite) to the noun.

The word for "my" also changes, depending on whether the noun is masculine, feminine or neuter.

Thought process

Here's how to work out the correct word and ending.

1.   Is the sentence referring to my, yours, his or hers? Look for clues to help you. E.g. Herr = Mr, and Frau = Mrs/Ms.

2.   Is the noun masculine, feminine, neuter or plural? Feminine is the easiest to identify, as the ending is usually -e / -ung/ -schaft. Plurals may be followed by a word like ‘sind’ (are).

3.   For feminine and plural nouns, add an -e to the word for his/hers. For masculine or neuter nouns, you don’t need to add an ending.
