Expression of Agreement

• Bagian listening tes TAEP dibagi menjadi part A, B, dan C.

• L​istening Part A often provides a correct answer containing an expression of agreement, both are agreements for positive and negative statements.

Agreement with a positive statement

Example

On the recording, you will hear:

(woman): I think, that the movie is incredible.

(man): So do I.

(narrator) : What does the man mean?

In your test book, you read:

a. He thinks that the movie is credible.

b. He finds the movie quite tedious.

c. He agrees with the woman.

d. The movie is ordinary.​

Ekspresi kata 'so do I' adalah contoh agreement with a positive statement, yang artinya si laki-laki tersebut setuju dengan si perempuan. So, the best answer is C. He agrees with the woman.​

Agreement with a negative statement

Example

(man): I don’t think that the project is exhausting.

(woman): Neither do I.

(narrator): What does the woman mean?

In your test book, you read:

(a)  She thinks the project is exhausting.

(b)  She disagrees with the man.

(c)  She doesn’t think the project is fun.

(d)  She shares the man’s opinion.

Ekspresi kata 'neither do I' adalah contoh agreement with a negative statement, yang artinya si perempuan tersebut sama-sama tidak setuju dengan si laki-laki. So, the best answer is d. She shares the man’s opinion.

Compare these examples:

• John: I hate mushrooms.

• Me: So do I (=I also hate mushrooms).

• Lucy: I don’t live in London.

• Me: Neither do I (=I also don’t live in London. For example, maybe Lucy

  and I both live in Paris).

(sama-sama tidak setuju/ setuju untuk tidak setuju dengan pernyataan lawan bicara)

2. I don't either ​(kalau sudah ada don't sebagai bentuk negative, kata either kembali ke bentuk either)
