Salvador Dali was born on May 11, 1904, in the town of Figueras, Spain. His family encouraged him to be an artist when he was a child. He went to the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.

Early Life

Dali became famous for being the best known surrealist artist. Surrealism is when you bring together fantasty (fake) images with real images. His most famous painting is The Persistence of Memory.

Mid-Life

Dali returned to Spain after the war ended. His wife died in 1982, and he died shortly after in 1989. He is remembered for is work in surrealism.
