Om dingen of mensen te beschrijven, gebruik je bijvoeglijke naamwoorden zoals klein, oud, sterk, koud en snel. Om meerdere dingen of mensen met elkaar te vergelijken, voeg je -er (vergelijkend) of -est (overtreffend) toe aan het bijvoeglijk naamwoord.

• Als het bijvoeglijk naamwoord eindigt op -y, vervang je de -y door -ier of -iest.​

• Als het bijvoeglijk naamwoord eindigt op een korte klinker + één medeklinker, verdubbel je die medeklinker als je -er of -est toevoegt.

• Als het bijvoeglijk naamwoord al op -e eindigt, voeg je alleen -r of -st toe.​
