Active and Passive

In active sentence, the subject does the action.

He washes his car.​

In a passive sentence we focus on the action done to the subject. The on who/what does the action is not important an can be dropped.

His car is washed.

​In a passive sentence we want to focus on the action done to the object (the car), so the object of the active sentence becomes the subject of the passive sentence. Then the verb changes into the passive form

(am, is, are + past participle).

" His car is washed by him"
