Definitions:

A transformation is how you change something on a graph based on a certain rule. There are 4 main transformations:

A Translation or a slide is a change in the x and (or) y direction. The figure will stay the say, but will "slide" on the graph.

A Reflection or a flip creates a mirror image of a figure after reflecting it across an axis. The old image and new image share the same distance from the axis.

A Rotation is a turn on your graph. Your figure will change orientation by 90, 180, 270 or 360 degrees.

A Dilation will make your figure bigger or smaller based on a scale factor. Dilations are either enlargements or reductions.

Translation:

A translation will always have a rule:

(x,y) goes to (x + ..., y + ....)

What is the rule for this picture:

Describe the translation: (red to blue)

5

Perform a translation on the figure: T<-2,3>

6

Reflection: An image and its reflected image will share the same distance from the axis.

Reflect the triangle across the y axis. What will the new points be?

Rotation: Rotations have a certain set of rules we can follow:

media

Perform the following rotations:

r<90,(1,2)>:

r<180,(-3,4)>:

r<270, (8,-2)>:

r<360, (1,4)>:
