How does this help everyone in the school?

8

Okay, so those are the ROAR Expectations, but what does that look like? Lets talk about the first R in ROAR.

9

  • Use a whisper

  • Respect others’ personal space

  • Respect others’ learning

media

Respect!

10

Use a Whisper

First of all, you should not be talking in the hallway. But if you absolutely must, you need to keep it to a whisper. There are other classes trying to learn, phones being answered in the office, and lots of other things happening. While one peron whispering might not be bad, it really can get out of hand if we all start whispering.

11

Respect others' personal space

  • When we line up, we put our arm straight out. If we can touch the person in front of us, we need to back up. This gives plenty of space to each person, so we won't bump into each other, and have an easier time keeping our hands to ourself. If we are facing forward, it also makes it easier to be quiet in the hall. It isn't much fun to talk to the back of someone's head.

  • We also line up in number order every time. This is helpful, because you will know if the person in front of you is missing, and you can let the teacher know.

  • When we line up in the hall for the first few times, check out your position in the hallway, so you know where exactly to stand when you are the first one out there.

12

Respect others' learning

There are classrooms all around you while you are in the hallway. You might be on your way back from lunch, or on your way to recess, but maybe they are doing math or social studies. Make sure they can hear their lesson! That means, you are not talking in the hallway. We are here to learn-don't take that opportunity away from others!

13

Multiple Choice

Which of these is NOT a way to show respect in the hallway?

1

Use a whisper, if you need to talk.

2

Respect each others' personal space.

3

Walk as fast as you can, so you can get where you are going quickly.

4

Respect others' learning.

14

Multiple Choice

When you walk by your friend's class, make sure to catch their attention so you can wave to them.

15

On to the O... Outstanding

  • Walk quietly

  • Stay in line

16

Walk quietly

This one must be important. It keeps coming up!

But, it doesn't mean just the talking.

No stomping your feet, hitting your pencil on the wall, or jumping up to hit the clocks or the door jambs.

17

Stay in line

  • We call it a line, not a swarm.

  • Think about cars. Everyone needs to stay in their lane. Unfortunately, there are no passing lanes in our hallway. The car in the back is responsible if they hit the car in front of them. Just like that, it is your responsibility to make sure you leave enough space in front of you

Question image

What can happen if we don't walk quietly, and stay in line?

19

Multiple Choice

Which one of these is UNACCEPTABLE hallway behavior?

1

Always stand in number order.

2

You talk quietly to the people around you. As long as they are close, it is okay.

3

Whisper in the hallway, only if you need to.

4

Stay in line while in the hallway.

20

On to the A... Always Safe

  • Keep hands, feet and objects to ourselves

  • Walk in single file line

  • Walk on the right side of the hallway

21

Keeps hands, feet and

objects to ourselves

  • This is self explanatory.

  • Do not touch each other. Not with your hands, not with your feet, not with anything!

  • Don't throw anything, either.

  • Don't touch the walls, don't put your feet on the walls, either.

  • When you walk, keep your arms at your sides.

22

Walk in a single file line

This class is not the only one in the building. If we walk in a single file line, not only do we have fewer temptations to talk to each other, but we are ready if another class is coming from the other direction. And, the teacher can see all of us, to make sure there are no issues.

23

Walk on the right side of the hallway

Did you ever notice that cars drive on the right side of the road? We walk like that in the hallway, too. It helps for everyone to be able to get where they are going.

24

Multiple Choice

Which of these shows how to walk safely in the hallway?

1

Lisa was walking by her friend's room, and stopped to wave.

2

Christine was behind Lisa, and she didn't have enough space in front of her, so she crashed into Lisa when she stopped.

3

Jen saw the crash, and thought it was so funny. She laughed so loud that it disrupted a classroom.

4

Eileen saw it happen, but she stayed quiet, so she wouldn't disturb the class more.

25

Multiple Choice

Which is acceptable hallway behavior?

1

Melissa was the first one in the hall, so she put her foot on the wall and leaned on it while she waited for everyone.

2

Julie was so good at basketball, and she wanted everyone to see, so she jumped up and hit the clock.

3

Stan always walks on the left side of the hallway, so he can pretend he is driving in England.

4

Stevie walked quietly in the hallway, watching where he was going.

26

The last R is for Responsible

How can you act responsibly?

  • Go directly to destination

  • Stay with our class

27

Go directly to your destination

Sometimes, you walk with your class, and sometimes you are on your own. Either way, you need to go straight to where you are supposed to be. If there is a fire or tornado drill, your teacher expects that you will be in a certain place. You need to be there! If you don't get there in time, and you hear the fire alarm, go into the nearest classroom. They will call me and tell me where you are.

So, no stops at the restroom, or to see the counselor, or to sneak into the lunchroom. Straight to your destination!

28

Stay with our class

  • You might see a friend in another class. You do not need to run over to high five them!

  • Maybe you just realized you have a cut as we are walking by the office. Do not run in to get a bandage! They will send you back out.

  • Maybe you see another teacher that you really need to talk to. Not now!

  • You just realized that you are incredibly thirsty. You can't fill your water bottle on your way to art!

  • Stay with your class!

29

Multiple Choice

Which of these is NOT a way to act responsibly in the hallway?

1

You can stop at the restroom whenever you pass it.

2

Stay with your class.

3

Do not stop along the way to where you are going.

4

Go directly to your destination.
