What is a clause?

A clause is a sentence. A group of words that has a subject and a verb.

There are two types of clause:

  • Independent clause/ a main clause: It contains the main subject and verb of a sentence.

  • Dependent clause: it is not a complete sentence because it must be connected to an independent clause.

  • ​An adjective clause or relative clause is a dependent clause that modifies a noun.

  • ​An Adverb clause is a dependent clause and need an independent clause to make a complete sentence
