Meeting of the Worlds Review
2
Multiple Select
What 2 pieces of evidence support the Clovis Peoples Theory of migration to the Americas?
Erratics (Giant Boulders) in Canada
Animal Dung (Spores start declining about 13,500 years ago)
Mastadon Bone with spearpoint in it from 13,800 years ago
Clovis Points used for hunting 13,000 years ago
3
The Erratics support the Clovis Theory because they provided a passageway from Asia (Russia) to Alaska and Canada in North America.
Clovis point spearheads support the Clovis Peoples Theory because they have been dated back to 13,000 years ago. This theory is built on the the evidence that these spears are only 13,000 years old and are manmade.
4
The animal dung spores do not support the Clovis Peoples Theory. They support the Coastal Migration Theory because the spores started to decrease 13,500 years ago - showing that animal populations were decresing due to hunting by humans at that time.
The mastadon bone with a broken spear tip in it supports the Coastal Migration Theory. This fossil is dated back to 13,800 years ago. This shows that humans were hunting in the Americas 800 years before the Clovis Peoples Theory says they were.
