​What is the intelligent system?

​A sophisticated computer system that can gather, examine, and react to the information it gathers from its surroundings is an intelligent system. With other agents, such as people or other computer systems, it can operate and communicate. It can also gain knowledge from past mistakes and modify itself in light of new information. Remote management and monitoring may also be supported by an intelligent system.

Intelligent systems refers to different software tools that enable decision makers to draw on the knowledge and decision processes of experts in making decisions.

Intelligent systems, when employed in solving engineering problems, require at least the following interfaces:​

​•Process interface, for the collection of sensor and alarm data and for the control of external devices such as actuators, controllers, alarm announciators, digital displays, etc.

•Software interfaces, for data exchange between the AI software and the procedural software, for access to the external computers and external data bases, etc.

•Man–machine interface, required for communication in natural language between the user and the system.

An intelligent system doesn't have one defining characteristic. Various sources use the phrase in various contexts. One common example of an intelligent system is a Roomba vacuum. Some might counter that its limited capacity for learning disqualifies it from this group because it can't avoid the same challenge. However, most people would agree that a self-driving automobile qualifies as an intelligent system or a serious attempt at one.
