After a computer has processed data, it provides the results in the form of output. There are four types of output: text, graphics, video, and audio.
What is Output?

Characters such as letters, symbols, and numbers are called text. To be considered text, the characters must be organized in a coherent way.

Drawings, photographs, and other visual images are called graphics.

Moving images are known as video. Images captured by a digital video camera, and which can be played on a computer, are one example.

Sound output is called audio. This includes music or speech that the computer plays through its speakers or headphones.

An output device is any piece of hardware that displays or plays back the result of computer processing.

Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) - receives electrical signals from the computer

A hardware device that receives and shows images on a screen.
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) - receives electrical signals from the computer; are heavy and take up a lot of space
Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) - lighter and use less power than CRTs

Printers
Makes a paper copy of the display shown on a monitor.
Impact Printer - receives signals from the computer that cause hammers or pins to press a ribbon covered in ink; can be noisy; the quality of the image is poor compared to nonimpact printers
Nonimpact Printer - such as inkjet and laser printers; use of ink and lasers to produce the image on the paper
